Since the release of their 1990 release 'Some Friendly,' I've been a big fan of the British pop band Charlatans (usually referred to as The Charlatans UK in the States). Granted, I've lost track of their music and career over the years but in recent weeks I've been getting reacquainted with the band, purchasing 1994's 'Up To Our Hips' and 2004's 'Up By The Lake.' Both are great. But then I listened to the Charlatans new album - 'You Cross My Path' - and in the of Charlatans fan Joaquin Phoenix, it's 'mega.' From the driving new single 'Oh!

Vanity' to the dreamy, shoegazer swirl of 'Bird/Reprise,' the album is spot-on. It's great to see a band like the Charlatans hanging in there after nearly two decades. What's interesting is that their music has stayed pretty consistent over the years. Lead singer Tim Burgess still sounds great and new keyboardist Tony Rogers continues with 'Hammond heaven' that the late Rob Collins started with the catchy single 'You're The Only One I Know,' probably their best-known State-side track.
