Well I had a DSL401 and didn't really get on with it. But then again I'm a gain whore and couldn't really care much for cleans. I'm guessing a 201 will be similar to the 401, just half the wattage. Good luck with it, hope you like it! Well, you see the cleans is what i was after (hence the consideration of a Vox & a Fender) but i feel like i would be missing out too much in the Marshall-sound tone dept.

Super-high gain is not really my thing, but halfways is & seems to me this will cover most enough ground up to (but not including) the 'gain-whore' stage The more i consider it the more i feel confident i've made the right decision (for me), so all i have to do now is wait patiently for it. Which is of course the hard part. I had a DSL401 for a while and with a little work is a good little amp, I just realised I'm a head & cab kinda guy so I sold it. However I think the clean channel is superb, really great. The Overdrive channel lacks bass and can get fizzy on the gain dial so to fix those things you can: 1. Place an EQ in the loop with the bass boosted and use the FX mix control as an extra bass control (back off the clean bass to compensate for the increased).

Three feeling diologues dowmload. Simple and cheap with a Fish n Chips. Upgrade the stock speaker. It's not great to start with and I found throwing an old G12T-75 from my 80's 4x12' made a big improvement to the richness of the sound and tamed the treble. Replace V2 with a 12DW7. C program for convolutional code matlab online version free. This is half 12AX7 (which leaves the clean channel unaffected) and half 12AU7 (which is a low gain tube in the overdrive channel) which makes the gain control more useable and gets you better low/medium gain sounds without any fizz.

These mods (particularly 1 and 3) will have you cooking in no time. Oh, thanks for that ShortScaleMike, i'll take those suggestions onboard & see if i feel a need to upgrade or change anything at some point. Just got the amp this morning & spent the best part of today giving it its dues. Its true you won't get the best out of this amp until you've had it on for about 20 minutes, i played around with it for a while then turned it off to go look up the manual (just for the sake of it, always nice to have a manual around even if it is just off the in'ernet) then i got back on it & it really started sounding nice. I still haven't had much time to really discover the Clean channel, but the settings i've liked so far on OD have been; maxxing out the master volume (naturally, you got a power-tube amp so use 'em:P), having the gain at around halfway (5), the preamp vol on 2 or so (depending on how loud you want it, this adjusts the main 'loudness' & 2 is about perfect for home-use) & adjust the eq for taste (generally Treble 10, Mids 5 & Bass 10 for rhythm, then switch the mid/bass around for leads), its also fun to max the gain out for the leads, which btw are fantastic!
