Hello everyone, Frustrated new Windows 10 user here. Formerly very happy Windows 7 user. Reconsidering my week-old 'upgrade' to Windows 10.

Among other problems with this OS (which otherwise might be a good fit for me outside of the lingering privacy issues), I don't want Edge to be used as the default PDF application. I greatly prefer Adobe Acrobat to view and work with.pdf files.

I've seen that I'm not the only person who has experienced this problem with Windows 10, and from what I can also see, there's been no solution that sticks. I've tried changing default programs multiple ways (see below) but in each case, during same Windows session, oftentimes just seconds later, Windows 10 conveniently 'forgets' the changes. Ways I've tried to set the default program for.pdf files: 1. Via Settings>System>Memperbaiki tablet yang lemah signal dan wifi. Default apps; 2.

Via Settings>System>Default apps>Choose default apps by file type; 3. Settings>System>Default apps>Set defaults by app Other MS suggestions I've seen elsewhere include: running SFC or DISM tool can help with this, but in my case, neither has had any effect. I've also seen that it may be possible to rename Edge in the Windows directory, but I haven't figured out how to do so as it asks for administrator privileges (which I have). File permissions for Edge show that I have 'special' permissions, while TrustedInstaller has full control. Sentinel safenet usb. I can't figure out how to change this, most solutions I've come across relate to earlier versions of the OS, or just don't otherwise help. This basic functionality (changing program defaults) shouldn't require hours of online research to correct. Why won't Windows 10 remember this setting?

How can I change it's behavior to stick? Thanks in advance to whomever can provide a working answer. Hi, Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10. Reply to the post with an updated status of this issue for further assistance. Hello Deepika Gowda, Thank you for your reply and attempt to help.

However, I don't see how this will solve my problem. I guess I should have more clearly indicated that not only do I prefer to use Adobe Acrobat to read pdfs, but that I also have this installed on my system.

If it helps, I have the full version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed. As you'll see from the third item that I list regarding the ways that I've tried to set Acrobat as the default app to open/view/work with.pdf files: '3. Settings>System>Default apps>Set defaults by app' The only way that I could do so would be to have the app installed on my system so that I could select it and tell Windows to make it the default. Perhaps I'm missing something, but is there a compelling reason why I'd want to install the free and stripped down Adobe Acrobat Reader to use for this purpose when I have and pay for the capabilities offered by the full, licensed version of the program? Absolutely none of the suggestions I've read thus far from Microsoft support engineers on this or other forums have been helpful. Why isn't this a simple process that works? Sorry if my frustration is showing through, but I had hoped for better with the new OS that is being pushed so hard by Microsoft.
